West Coast Produce - Emergency Conditions

Below is a letter from Church Brothers, a major produce grower on the west coast. Please advise, because of produce conditions in the near future, we may have to turn down produce deliveries which will cause outages to our customers. Please also, in times like these, please inspect all produce delivered to your establishment before accepting the delivery and signing the ticket. You can expect shorter than normal shelf life on many of the items listed below.

Dear Customer,

The Salinas Valley growing region has been experiencing higher than normal temperatures for an extended period of time.As a direct result from the record high temperatures many crops have been adversely affected. The growers in the Salinas Valley are seeing many issues arise from the hot weather. When the temperatures are elevated some crops stop growing and it takes over a week to get the plants growing again. The growers are doing everything they can to get product to market. Overall available volumes/yields are expected to be lower the next two to three weeks with higher prices anticipated.
